Applying for children's passports

From 01.01.2024, it will no longer be possible to apply for a child passport. This change is regulated in the Act on the Modernization of Passport, ID and Alien Law Documents.

The travel pass for young people under the age of 18 must be

be applied for by the legal representatives.

This is usually both parents together:

  • if parents live together
  • or if parents have joint custody rights.

One parent wants to submit the application alone?

Then the other parent must agree in writing.

The signature will be checked.

For this, the Citizens' Center needs

  • the identity card
  • or a copy of the identity card.

You must bring your child to the Citizens' Center.

Otherwise you will not be able to apply for the Child Travel Pass.

This applies to children of any age.

To apply for a Child Travel Pass you need:

  • 1 new biometric photo

Biometric means: certain rules apply to the photo.

For example, the photo must not have a patterned background.

And the face must be clearly recognizable.

  • the birth certificate
  • the signature of children aged 10 and over
  • if necessary: the declaration of consent from the other parent

Please have the biometric photo taken by the photographer.

Rules must be observed for the photo.

For example, the mother's sweater must not be visible.

A Child Travel Pass is valid for a maximum of 1 year.

A Child Travel Pass is only valid for children

who are not yet 12 years old.

Until then, you can have the Children's Travel Pass extended.

You will need a new biometric photo for the extension.

Your child may have to sign the Child Travel Pass.

Important:

Do you want to extend the Child Travel Pass?

Then the Child Travel Pass must not have expired.

Do you need a child travel pass?

Then you must come to the Citizens' Center in person with your child.

Please make an appointment beforehand.

You can only fill out the application at the Citizens' Center.

The application is printed out directly at the Citizens' Center.

The passport photo machine in the town hall cannot be used at the moment.

A Children's Travel Pass costs 13.00 euros.

The renewal of a Children's Travel Pass costs 6.00 euros.

Have you lost your Kinder-Reise-Pass?

You must report this immediately to the Citizens' Center.

Has your Child Travel Pass been stolen?

You must also report this to the Citizens' Center immediately.

Then you must also report it to the police.
