Description
Roads are intended for travel and transportation. This is known as “public use.” If you wish to use a road for a purpose other than public use, you need a special-use permit.
This may apply, for example, to:
a festival
a rally
a bicycle race
a sporting event
film and television shoots
Who you apply to for the special use permit depends on where the special use is to take place. For state highways, the regional highway authority is responsible; for highways, the relevant highway authority is responsible.
To ensure that the special use permit is granted, you must make sure that:
temporarily erected structures
are approved separately
are safe
you cover any resulting damages
The permit is granted for a limited time or until revoked and may be subject to conditions and requirements.
