But yes! With this title, the artists’ collective salzgitter-gruppe is sending a confident message of independence and resilience. Their 64th annual exhibition at the Städtische Kunstsammlungen Schloss Salder is a sign of life for the regional art scene—a commitment to artistic freedom and perhaps also a protest against resignation. After all, art requires optimism, curiosity, and the conviction that it’s worth looking at the world anew time and again.

After a busy year, twelve artists from the Salzgitter Group, together with a guest artist, are presenting a selection of their work. The exhibition brings together around 50 works and impressively demonstrates just how diverse artistic responses to the world can be.

Photographic precision meets vividly colored abstraction, while representational works stand alongside open, experimental visual explorations. The result is a multifaceted panorama of individual forms of expression, shaped by diverse working methods, personal experiences, and long-standing artistic explorations.

The exhibition features paintings, collages, photographs, and sculptures by Klaus Berner, Gerd Druwe, Michael Ewen, Gunther Fritz, Susanne Hesch, Harald Illmann, Peter Kuhl, Heide Lühr-Hassels, Wolfgang Spittler, Hans-Jürgen Trams, Ursula Trams, and Reinhard Wessolek. Guest artist Alice Anders rounds out this year’s presentation.

All of the exhibiting artists share a biographical connection to Salzgitter. Through their ongoing artistic work and regular exhibitions, they enrich the city’s cultural life and keep the regional art scene vibrant. The annual exhibition offers them a shared platform and gives the public the opportunity to discover different artistic perspectives and engage in dialogue with one another.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Salzgitter.
