Every November, all 5th and 6th graders from both schools set off to visit the library with their German teachers. This visit is combined with the start of the school's internal Antolin reading competitions.
All pupils in Year 5 are introduced to the Antolin internet program, given free passwords and are now expected to read read read... and collect points for their class and, of course, for themselves. The online program Antolin is used to check whether they have actually read books and understood their content. The pupils are asked to answer questions about the books they have read.
While the 5th graders can choose their favorite literature themselves, all 6th graders receive an extensive list of novels and non-fiction books compiled by the school and the city library. From this list, the pupils are asked to choose books that they would like to read.
The library actively accompanies this competition, manages the passwords, creates the reading lists, checks the reading performance, issues certificates and encourages and praises via the Antolin mailbox.
After about 5 months, the competitions end with an award ceremony at the respective school. A special prize, namely a cinema voucher sponsored by the library and the school association, is awarded to the classes that have collectively scored the most points. Prizes are also awarded to the two best pupils in each class.
Schools that are also interested in an internal Antolin competition are welcome to contact us.
