The ensemble from Poland is composed of members of the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra in Katowice, Salzgitter’s sister city. The event will honor this sister-city relationship, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
The concert also marks the end of the exhibition “From ‘You’ to ‘We’: Refugees and Displaced Persons in Postwar Lower Saxony,” which will remain on view at the Municipal Museum at Salder Castle through June 28. The concert will take place in the Fürstensaal of the Municipal Museum in Salzgitter-Salder.
Concertgoers will experience what happens when a classical musician arranges hits from the 1960s for his own chamber ensemble: exquisitely crafted pieces in which listeners will recognize both catchy pop tunes and great classical music.
For example, one of the works begins with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, then transitions to “Somebody to Love” by Queen, and concludes by returning to Tchaikovsky.
A true crossover project that truly lives up to its name. And its success proves composer Dariusz Zboch and his ensemble right. His latest work, “Vivaldiana,” is a virtuosic four-movement piano concerto based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, rooted in jazz, swing, tango, and bossa nova.
The Silesian Chamber Soloists, one of Europe’s most successful string ensembles, have collaborated with renowned artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Yehudi Menuhin, Christoph Eschenbach, Pinchas Zuckerman, Maxim Vengerov, Mstislav Rostropovich, and the German pianist and conductor Christoph Soldan.
After a joint tour, Leonard Bernstein said of Christoph Soldan: “I am impressed by the spiritual greatness of this young musician.”
