Library Day: Discovery Activities at the City Library

The Salzgitter City Library is participating in the nationwide Library Day on October 24 with special activities. What makes it special: You can also explore the activity stations at the Lebenstedt Library afterward…

If you want to solve this riddle, you should visit the public library in Lebenstedt.

“Visitors will find stations at various locations throughout the library in Lebenstedt that invite them to look around and get involved,” announces Meike Buthmann, team leader in Lebenstedt. She won’t reveal any more details, but adds that it will definitely be worth checking out the activity tables starting October 24.

Sylvia Fiedler, director of the city library, also emphasized this: “With the additional activities we have planned around Library Day, we want to highlight just how diverse and extensive the offerings and programs at the Salzgitter City Library are,” said Sylvia Fiedler. Library Day is therefore a welcome opportunity to invite many people to discover what the library has to offer through special events.

Information:

Library Day was proclaimed in Germany on October 24, 1995, under the patronage of Richard von Weizsäcker. Since then, libraries across the country have used this day to draw attention to their role as repositories of knowledge, providers of information, and cultural institutions through special activities and events.

The day commemorates October 24, 1828. On that day, Germany’s first school library—which later became a public library—opened in Großenhain, Saxony. By making the library accessible free of charge to all social classes, the foundation for the modern public library system was laid for the first time.

On Saturday, October 24, the Lebenstedt Library (Joachim-Campe-Straße 4) will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting Tuesday, October 27, visitors can continue their journey of discovery during regular opening hours (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
