Salzgitter

Series of Events for Education Professionals

The City of Salzgitter’s Childcare Advisory Service, part of the Department of Children, Youth, and Family Services, invites early childhood educators to a new series of professional development workshops. There are still spots available for the kickoff event on “Child Sexuality and Child Protection” on October 27; those interested can register now.

“Child Sexuality and Child Protection” will be the focus of the kickoff event. In her presentation, a staff member from the counseling center against sexual violence will discuss current principles of developmental psychology and sex education to help contextualize childhood sexuality. The focus will be on criteria for professionally distinguishing between age-appropriate behavior, behavior that crosses boundaries, and indicators of a potential risk to a child’s well-being. In addition, the presentation will explain why a thorough understanding of childhood sexuality is a key prerequisite for professional educational practice and the prevention of sexual violence. Finally, there will be an opportunity to reflect on real-world cases and engage in professional discussion.
