The death of a person must be reported no later than the third business day following the death to the civil registry office with jurisdiction over the area where the person died.

Death outside a facility (hospital, retirement or nursing home, or other facility):

The person

• who lived in the same household as the deceased,

• in whose home the death occurred,

and

• who was present at the time of death or has been informed of the death based on their own knowledge,

is required to report the death verbally or in writing. The report may also be made by a funeral home .

Death in a facility:

• The facility must report the death to the civil registry office.
