If you need assistance with living expenses and do not have health insurance—whether through a public or private plan—medical care will be provided by the social assistance agency.

The social assistance agency will determine whether you are eligible to receive benefits. You are entitled to preventive health care, which includes:

• preventive medical services
• Examinations for the prevention and early detection of diseases
• medical treatments to prevent an illness or health impairment

The following documents are required:

• An informal application or request for the issuance of a treatment voucher or a guarantee of cost coverage
• Current notice regarding subsistence benefits (SGB II, SGB XII, or AsylBLG)
• Identity card or passport
• Any prescriptions and/or, if applicable, payment receipts, required consultation confirmations, cost estimates, any denial notices, etc.

The responsible social assistance agency will provide information on the documents required in each individual case.
