Crèche: In the daycare facilities for the youngest children, from infants to the age of 3, up to three professionals look after a maximum of 15 children per group.

Kindergarten: All children from the age of 3 until they start school have a legal right to a place and should attend kindergarten. A maximum of 25 children are playfully supported in their learning development by at least 2 specialist staff.

After-school care: Schoolchildren are not only looked after with their schoolwork after school. They are also offered educationally-oriented leisure activities. Up to 20 children are supported in their development by 2 specialists.

Registration at the daycare centers: Registration takes place solely via the daycare planner of the city of Salzgitter in the parents' portal (opens in a new tab).

The basic idea of integrative daycare in the form of integrative groups (crèche/kindergarten/after-school care) is the joint care and education of children with and without disabilities. In addition to this, inclusive groups are characterized by a smaller group size (max. 18 children) in order to do justice to all children in their development and to consider their individual needs. Furthermore, an integration group also has an additional special needs teacher.

The prerequisite for an integration place is an acknowledgement of costs for your child issued by the integration assistance department for the costs of joint care for children with and without disabilities.

In Salzgitter, there is the Wirbelwind speech therapy kindergarten, which offers a combination of playful learning in small groups, intensive speech therapy and holistic support for children with speech development disorders.

Admission to the speech therapy kindergarten is via the Salzgitter health department. You should introduce your child to the specialist advisor there. You can make an appointment by calling 05341 - 8392417.
If the specialist consultation determines that your child has a significant impairment in speech development, outpatient therapy does not appear to be sufficient (e.g. speech therapy) and recommends a measure in the speech therapy kindergarten, your child can be admitted to the speech therapy kindergarten.

A meal fee of €45.00 per month is charged for participation in the lunch program. Contribution reductions or pro rata assumption of costs can be applied for as part of the education and participation package. The requirements and the subsequent contribution amount can be found in the attachment below. Contact persons for an application are the job center or the social services department of the city of Salzgitter (housing benefit office). In special individual cases, the costs may also be covered in full or in part by the specialist service for children, youth and family in accordance with Section 90 (3) SGB VIII.

Contributionexemption from 1. 1. 2019: The state law introducing contribution exemption for all three kindergarten years came into force on 1.1.2019. This applies to parental contributions up to 8 hours of childcare per day. The contribution for meals is excluded. This does not apply to crèche and after-school care places.

Applications for exemption from contributions must be submitted by the parents or legal representatives of the children to the Children, Youth and Family Department. A corresponding application form is available from the specialist service, the Citizens' Center and the local daycare centers. The applications completed and signed by the legal guardians must be confirmed by the daycare centers in which the children are registered.

You can apply for a reduction or waiver of parental contributions,
if the parental contributions are not or only partially reasonable in relation to your income.
