Salzgitter

Families with children in the museum

When presenting the permanent exhibitions at Salder Castle, particular attention was paid to children.

Several hands-on stations invite young visitors to join in spontaneously and put interesting facts into practice. In the cellar vault, for example, they can study the structure of the earth on a wooden globe right down to the earth's interior by assembling the individual layers in the correct order, from the earth's crust to the mantle to the earth's core. There is also a water column that can be operated to understand the sedimentation process. There are also microscopes for looking at rocks or iron ore.

On the first floor, there is a tactile box where visitors can feel the raw materials used by Stone Age people. In the room next door, visitors can pick up the skull of a red deer and compare the antlers with a roebuck antler. In the medieval section, curious visitors can open the shard cabinet. Original shards from Lichtenberg Castle are stored there. Although you are not allowed to take them out or take them with you, it is possible to touch them, compare them and see whether similar patterns can be recognized on the vessels on display in the showcase.
