Water withdrawals subject to charges are
- the abstraction and discharge of water from surface waters,
- the abstraction, pumping, discharging and transfer of groundwater.
The lower water authority is responsible for setting and charging the fee.
The amount of the water abstraction charge depends on the origin, quantity and use of the water abstracted. It can be reduced on application if certain conditions are met. For the calculation of the fee, the water withdrawal must be recorded using suitable measuring devices and reported to the lower water authority in the declaration for the determination of the water withdrawal fee.
The fee is determined by the lower water authority by written notification and is due for one calendar year. If the calculated fee is not higher than € 260, it is not charged.
The lower water authority can exempt you from the obligation to pay the fee if the water withdrawal serves to protect, maintain or develop nature and the landscape or to preserve a cultural monument.
