Under the patronage of Mayor Frank Klingebiel, the “ABC Lesen” collaboration project is being carried out by the Public Health Department and the Education/City Library Division of the City of Salzgitter.

After successfully passing their pre-school health exam, prospective students receive a voucher from the City Library for a library card as well as a gift in the form of a children’s book related to starting school.

The partners are confident that this initiative will inspire many families in Salzgitter to read or have their children read aloud—"ABC Lesen" offers parents a simple way to get started in promoting early childhood reading.

At the same time, the initiative aims to spark an interest in healthy eating and sufficient physical activity among future schoolchildren in a playful way.
