According to Section 20 of the Lower Saxony Climate Act (NKlimaG), the city of Salzgitter is obliged to draw up a municipal heating plan by June 30, 2026.

The goal

The aim of municipal heating planning is to transform the heating supply towards greenhouse gas neutrality by 2040. Municipal heating planning serves as a long-term, strategic planning tool that accompanies the city on its way to a climate-friendly heating supply.

How was the municipal heating plan drawn up?

By analyzing the consumption and requirements of the buildings, as well as the settlement structure and existing infrastructures, potentials for the city of Salzgitter were mapped and targets and measures defined.

The targets and measures defined in the heat planning serve the city of Salzgitter as a basis for action for the long-term restructuring of the heat supply in the urban area towards climate-friendly solutions. According to the current legal situation, municipal heating planning is updated every five years. The City of Salzgitter will provide ongoing information on the progress of the implementation and updating process.

The expected heating network supply areas in the target year 2040 were determined on the basis of the analyses and calculations at building block level.
