Social City - Social Cohesion: Kampstraße District

The Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transportation, and Construction recently announced that the Kampstraße area has been included in the funding program “Social Cohesion—Shaping Community Life Together.”

The Kampstraße area has been included in the urban development assistance program.

The redevelopment ordinance required for this purpose was adopted by the Salzgitter City Council on September 30, 2026.

Up to 8.41 million euros in funding from the “Social Cohesion” program is thus available for the revitalization of the Kampstraße neighborhood. This means that during the 15-year funding period, up to 8.41 million euros in funding will be available for improving housing, the living environment, social projects, neighborhood management, and climate protection measures. Without this funding, it would not be possible for us as a city to finance these projects solely with municipal funds.

The Kampstraße funding area includes:

The area encompasses Kampstraße, all side streets, the Forellenhof Youth Culture Workshop (JKW), and St. Michael’s Church, located behind the “Am Kreisel” intersection.

In 2023, preliminary studies involving extensive public participation were conducted for the Kampstraße area as well as the Saldersche Straße area. The findings from these studies form the basis for further action.

About the program “Social Cohesion—Shaping Community Life Together in Our Neighborhood”:

The program “Social Cohesion—Shaping Community Life Together in Neighborhoods” continues and further develops the funding priorities of the former “Social City” program. The program aims to initiate neighborhood-based, inclusive, and socially oriented urban development.

The goal is to support cities and municipalities in stabilizing and revitalizing neighborhoods facing urban planning, social, and economic challenges, high unemployment, inadequate housing conditions, and cultural deficits through urban development measures. This is intended to bring about a sustainable improvement in the housing and living conditions of residents in these neighborhoods.
