Under the motto "A neighborhood on the move", a special network has developed from various stakeholders. Social cohesion in the district has grown in recent years.

This togetherness is reflected in many joint activities such as the annual district festival, the Arche 4 open house and the new district garden. In addition, a large number of individual construction measures have been implemented. However, there is still room for improvement in the fundamental modernization and refurbishment of the building and housing stock as an important impetus in the urban renewal process to date.

The housing stock, which is no longer adequate by today's standards, could not be developed as required and desired in the past due to the prevailing ownership structure, the large number of changes in ownership and their reluctance to invest. As a result, the overall completion of the redevelopment process was already scheduled for the end of 2020.

The transfer of ownership of around 700 residential units in the Ostsiedlung to a new investor in 2019 has opened up the prospect of tackling the central objective of the renewal process anew and rounding off and sustainably securing the successes of the urban renewal process to date.

The new owner intends to invest extensively and successively in the buildings (e.g. façade and roof renovations, renewal of building entrances, changes to apartment layouts, etc.) and also in the residential environment (creation of recreational areas, play areas or access routes to the buildings). The city of Salzgitter intends to subsidize the planned modernization and repair measures with urban development funds.

As a basis for this, the Administrative Committee (representing the City Council of Salzgitter) decided at its meeting on 11.05.2021 to extend the implementation period of the urban renewal measure until 31.12.2025 and approved the implementation of the individual measures contained in the update of the integrated action plan for the period 2021 to 2025. In addition to the upgrading of the Ostsiedlung, the conditions have thus been created, for example, to continue to support owners willing to invest in planned modernization and repair measures on their buildings and in the residential environment with urban development funds.
