Bulky waste collection
The SRB also offers the collection of old electrical appliances as part of the bulky waste collection service.
The collection of old electrical appliances from private households is subject to a charge. Applications for collection are made using the bulky waste card.

Mobile hazardous waste collection
Small electrical appliances can also be handed in free of charge at the mobile hazardous waste collection (once a year).

Why is it collected separately?

The separate collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment
- avoids waste:
Separate collection means that over 80 percent of waste can usually be recycled.
- reduces the amount of pollutants released into the environment:
Pollutants such as cadmium, mercury or CFCs can be disposed of separately
- conserves raw materials and energy:
Separate collection enables metals and plastics to be recycled.

From March 24, 2006, all new electrical appliances that can be used in private households will be marked with a "crossed-out wheeled garbage can". The symbol indicates that this product must not be disposed of with household waste or in the yellow bag/bin, organic waste, paper or glass containers.

Waste electrical and electronic equipment is collected at the Diebestieg waste disposal facility according to groups, which are then sent to the respective recycling plants. The manufacturers are responsible for the collection of the appliance groups and their recycling. The costs for transportation and recycling are borne by the manufacturers.

The different types of electrical appliances are sorted into the following groups:

Group 1 - Refrigerators; oil-filled radiators e.g.:
Large refrigerators, fridges, freezers, other large appliances for cooling, preserving and storing food

Group 2 - Screens, monitors, TV sets and appliances with screens larger than 100 cm²

Group 3 - Lamps; e.g.:
Fluorescent lamps, neon lamps, low-pressure metal halide lamps, energy-saving lamps, LED lamps

Group 4 - Large household appliances and automatic dispensers (external dimensions > 50 cm); e.g:
Washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, stoves and ovens, electric hotplates/heating plates, microwaves, electric heaters/radiators, electric fans, air conditioners, night storage heaters, other large electrical appliances

Group 5 - Small household appliances, information and telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics equipment, lamps and other lighting fixtures as well as devices for the propagation or diffusion of light, electrical and electronic tools, toys, sports and leisure equipment, medical devices, monitoring and control instruments; e.g.:
Vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters, deep fryers, coffee machines, electric knives, hair dryers, electric tooth dryers, electric toothbrushes, electric scalers, electric kettles, electric fryers and other electrical appliances. Knives, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes, shavers, alarm clocks, PCs/laptops, electric notebooks, printers, photocopiers, fax machines, telephones, cell phones, radios, video equipment, hi-fi systems, video cameras, other equipment for recording and reproducing sounds and images, musical instruments, drills, saws, sewing machines, electric lawnmowers, other electric gardening equipment, electric trains/racing tracks.
