Salzgitter is becoming increasingly attractive, as can be seen in the city center of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, where millions of euros are currently being invested in a new shopping experience that will benefit the retail sector as a whole.
The city of Salzgitter has created the best conditions for this. According to the investor, the shopping center will probably be extended by a "C" section after sections A and B due to high demand. This is the section between Deichmann and the Créteilpassage with the areas behind it.
Component B, in the Blumentriften 26-32 area, has now been completed. Several stores with sales areas of between 400 and 550 square meters have already opened. The large pit of component A on Monument-Platz is enclosed by fences. This is where several buildings in the area of In den Blumentriften 38 to 52 have been demolished and new construction is currently underway.
The city has developed not only in the construction sector, but also in the virtual sector. Right at the beginning of 2013, the city launched "Salzgitter mobil".
Since then, anyone accessing the city of Salzgitter's website from a smartphone has landed on a mobile version of www.salzgitter.de. Selected content from the city's website is clearly displayed on the small monitor. This means that the city's website, which is very popular with citizens and visitors, can also be accessed in an optimized way via mobile devices.
Users of internet-enabled cell phones and smartphones such as the iPhone or Android devices can now access a range of topics and the latest news from the town hall on the go. The Salzgitter mobile version lists the latest five press releases and the next five events in Salzgitter right on the homepage.
The main focus is on the "News" and "Events" pages, which are constantly updated. Further information areas and a brief portrait of the city round off the offer. The information available will be continuously expanded.
The bathing water quality of the popular Salzgittersee in Germany has been rated "Excellent" by the European Union (EU). Just in time for the bathing season, blue EU signs were put up on both beaches. Since the 2008 bathing season, the quality of bathing water in Germany has been monitored in accordance with the European and Lower Saxony bathing water regulations.
The reports from all member states are summarized and published by the European Commission in Brussels with other information as a so-called bathing water atlas. Only those lakes that have been able to demonstrate excellent water quality for four consecutive years since 2008 receive an award from the EU. In the case of the Salzgittersee, it is the best of three possible.
Work on the lakeside restaurant in Reppner's Bay on Salzgittersee officially began with the ground-breaking ceremony in December. According to investor Eugen Schulz, the preparatory work should be completed by the time frost sets in.
Schulz plans to open the "Café del Lago" by the end of November 2014 at the latest. Once completed, 120 guests inside and up to 200 more on the sun terrace will be able to enjoy food and drink as well as the magnificent view across the beach and lake to the Salzgitter mountain range.
The concept for Salzgitter is based on models such as Pier 21 in Hanover, the Colombian pavilion at Allersee in Wolfsburg or the Café del Sol restaurant chain, which conveys a Mediterranean flair in a vacation atmosphere.
The 2013 annual chronicle for Salzgitter can be viewed online at www.salzgitter.de.
