The reason for this was a further coordinated joint approach in the region against the storage in the Konrad mine, which is still planned by the federal government.
The 30 or so participants agreed that there was no way around a reassessment of the storage situation at the Konrad mine. A review was long overdue anyway in the interests of the people living here. According to the unanimous opinion, the protests to date have at least succeeded in ensuring that this region is recognized by the federal government and that the state supports this.
Furthermore, the same high standards should be applied to the storage of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste as for high-level radioactive waste. The option of retrievability must also apply to the Konrad mine in the same way as to repositories for high-level radioactive waste.
A joint resolution with a corresponding information campaign was also agreed. Its adoption in the various local parliaments is planned for December 2015. A personal handover to Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks is also planned for January 19, 2016.
Each of the participants will continue to work in their role to ensure that the federal government in Berlin does not ignore the demands of citizens here in the region.
