Interested parties were able to experience the event live in front of the Kulturscheune. Anyone who didn't have the opportunity to do so can now watch it again - on the City of Salzgitter's YouTube channel (opens in a new tab).
In his opening speech at the panel discussion, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel made it clear that the fears and concerns in the region cannot simply be brushed aside. The region was asking questions such as: Why is Schacht Konrad not included in the open-ended site search? Why is there no discussion about the required retrievability of nuclear waste at Schacht Konrad?
The region's appeal, signed by six cities, four districts and nine municipalities, sends an important signal for joint action and unity in the region.
From 2.30 p.m., the "Konrad stoppen - statt erweitern" ("Stop Konrad - instead of expanding") campaign alliance protested against the German government's nuclear waste policy in front of the event building. 42 pictures with interior and exterior shots are available on the city's Facebook page (opens in a new tab).
