Salzgitter

Ministry complains about financing

Watenstedt project no longer feasible: The Ministry of the Interior of Lower Saxony has announced that funding outside of the target agreement concluded with the state government is no longer permissible.

Design of the planned industrial park.

Due to the high level of debt, the city of Salzgitter has committed itself to the Ministry of the Interior with a target agreement to limit its debt.

However, a loan of 34 million euros would be required to finance the conversion of the Watenstedt district into an industrial park. In a letter to the city, the ministry has ruled out approval for this.

Mayor Frank Klingebiel informed the city council of this at its meeting on Wednesday. The citizens of Watenstedt were informed of the new development in a separate letter to all households.

The new Salzgitter City Council, which will be elected on September 11, 2016, will decide in principle whether and how the Watenstedt project can proceed.
