It all started on 9 August: the indoor outdoor pool at Salzgittersee in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt is being modernized and expanded in two construction phases until the end of 2018.
The renovation is deliberately being carried out in two construction phases in order to keep restrictions to a minimum. The indoor pool can therefore continue to be used until the end of 2017. The new water areas will then be available to guests from January 2018. The rest of the refurbishment and renovation work is due to be completed in December 2018.
The first construction phase consists of the extension section (entrance and bathing hall with multi-purpose pool and children's pool) and the conversion section (partial conversion of changing rooms, conversion of course pool). The conversion of the remaining changing rooms and the renovation of the large bathing hall with the swimmers' pool are already part of the second construction phase.
The extensive construction of Albert-Schweitzer-Straße between Gothastraße and Joachim-Campe-Straße has been underway for several months until 2017.
To ensure that traffic can flow during the entire construction period, the C&A side was initially expanded. As part of this redesign and ongoing construction work, traffic was switched to the new lane on November 8. since then, the expansion has been taking place on the Globushaus side.
On this side of the Globushaus, there will be a spacious pedestrian promenade into which tactile guiding strips will be integrated. Thanks to their own surface structure, these guide strips provide better orientation for the visually impaired.
Roland Kaiser concerts are sold out, but on August 18, fans of the singer were also able to enjoy a Kaiser open-air concert in Salzgitter in front of Salder Castle.
He performed his best songs from 40 years and his new CD in the impressive castle courtyard as part of the Kultursommer festival. The indefatigable Roland Kaiser had produced a new album to give his fans a taste of it live and in the open air over the course of 2016, as well as his immortal and much-loved hits.
The extensive shopping options in Salzgitter are being further expanded: Media Markt opens its doors for the first time on March 17 in the City-Carree in Lebenstedt. The move has created 28 new jobs in Salzgitter. The first trainees joined the company in August.
The other stores in the shopping center and the entire city center will also benefit from the new "anchor tenant". Even more visitors from the surrounding area than usual will use it to shop and linger alongside Salzgitter residents.
There are two other large shopping centers in the city center - just a few steps away: the City-Tor-Center and the Stadtpassage as well as the new retail center, which was completed just a few months ago. Another large consumer electronics store, Expert, can be found around one and a half kilometers from the city centre.
Salzgitter is the fourth greenest city in Germany after Siegen, Göttingen and Bergisch Gladbach out of 79 major cities. This result was determined in 2016 by the Berliner Morgenpost, which compared almost 200 satellite images. The name "Salzgitter - City in the Green" is no coincidence.
There is nature to discover everywhere: In the Salzgitter hills and at the Salzgittersee recreation center, of course. Also at Heerter See and Reihersee, on the Innerste, Warne, Fuhse, Flothe and at and around the Bismarck Tower.
A new film has been available since March 2016 on the city's Salzgitter YouTube channel, which is now subscribed to by almost 926 users and has over 700,000 views. You can now watch a three-and-a-half-minute promotional film about Salzgitter. It was produced by the Medienzentrum of the City of Salzgitter's Department of Culture.
Salzgitter has many advantages as a place to live: The city combines nature and business in a unique way.
