Salzgitter

Community center becomes a community facility

The community center in the Noah community in the east and west housing estate will be converted into a "House of Encounter and Movement" from November 17. The city of Salzgitter successfully applied for funding, which is why work can begin this year.

Extensive work is planned on the existing building. The interior of the building will be made barrier-free with an elevator. In addition, the area around the existing hall is to be restructured and the sanitary facilities renovated.

The rooms on the hall level need to be reorganized so that the hall can be used as an exercise room for all age groups, among other things. To this end, the building services, wall, ceiling and floor coverings will be renewed. The installation of a parquet floor suitable for sports will round off the new look. The existing mobile hall partition wall, which enables parallel operation within the hall, will be retained. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2018. After that, the building will be multifunctional.

The "Haus der Begegnung und Bewegung" completes the center of the east and west housing estate, which was modernized during the urban renewal process, and complements the existing uses, such as the KunterBund daycare centre, the Roxy-Helco playground and the NOW district meeting point. This supports the City of Salzgitter's strategic goal of making the east and west estates more child and family-friendly. This will create special unifying perspectives and opportunities for the future of the district for the integration and coexistence of different cultures and the involvement of all generations. Space will be created that can be used in a variety of ways and will also close gaps in the offer.

The project was launched on April 28 with the signing of the contract. The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Noah and the city of Salzgitter concluded an owner renovation contract. At the signing of the contract, those responsible spoke of a first in the cooperation between the city and the Noah parish, which sends out an important signal for the eastern and western estates and thus also for the people in the city.

Background:

Since 2004, the eastern and western estates have been supported by the federal and state "Socially Integrative City" program. The basis for the implementation of projects is the integrated action plan for the redevelopment area. The construction and planning costs for the 2nd construction phase of the "Haus der Begegnung und Bewegung" project amount to around 600,000 euros. Federal and state urban development funds amounting to EUR 400,000 will be used. The city of Salzgitter's own contribution amounts to 200,000 euros. Since 2010, the community of Noah itself has invested around 130,000 euros in the renovation and repair of the community center.

The overall coordination of the project lies with the Department for Social City and Urban Redevelopment of the City of Salzgitter. The client is the NOAH municipality. The planning was carried out by Michael Aselmeier (freelance architect BdA).
