The construction work must then be completed by the end of the urban development program at the latest.
Since 2004, the eastern and western estates have been supported by the federal and state "Socially Integrative City" program. The focus is on structural renewal in the redevelopment area by eliminating structural defects and modernizing and repairing buildings. Examples of this include the "Quartierspark" community facilities at the Am Ziesberg elementary school and the "Haus der Begegnung und Bewegung" on Martin-Luther Platz. They also include the "NOW-Treff" and the "Quartiersmanagement". Other visible construction successes include the "Roxy-Helco playground" and the "Martin-Luther-Platz".
In addition, streets, squares and paths have been redesigned over the past 14 years and disused buildings have been demolished. These structural improvements have also improved the quality of working and living conditions. Another positive effect: higher or stable sales and rental prices have been achieved. In addition, the cityscape and atmosphere have improved: whereas the east and west estates used to have a negative image, the district has developed into a popular residential area for young and old in recent years.
Around 5.7 million euros have been invested in the redevelopment area since the start of the "Socially Integrative City" urban development program. Two thirds have been provided by the state and federal government; one third has been provided by the city of Salzgitter. This program has thus achieved a lot of positive things in the eastern and western settlements and also for Salzgitter.
As the urban development funding program is expected to expire at the end of 2021 at the latest and the final phase has therefore begun, all property owners still have the opportunity to apply for grants and start the renovation measures. Anyone who would like to have the roof or façade of their house repaired, for example, or improve outdoor facilities or outbuildings, can obtain information from the City of Salzgitter's Urban Redevelopment and Social City Department.
Eligibility requirements: the property must be located within the redevelopment area, the property/building must have urban development deficiencies/deficiencies, the measure has not yet been started and the financing of the measure cannot be supported or financed by own funds and/or other external funds or subsidies (grants or loans from the KfW Bank).
General information is also available from the Neighborhood Management (Socially Integrative City) in the Ost- und Westsiedlung (see contact below).
