"The city's transport infrastructure is being improved with support from the state. The state is funding the renovation of the Stabbogenbrücke bridge and the replacement of three other bridges on the Industriestraße Mitte with around 3.2 million euros," said Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel on the ministry's decision.
As part of district road 39, the Stabbogenbrücke is one of the main traffic arteries in Salzgitter. As such, it connects the large industrial plants VW, Salzgitter-Flachstahl and Schacht Konrad to the A 39 freeway. The bridge has been closed since September 3 for renovation work. The renovation costs amount to around 2.4 million euros. Funding of just under 1.4 million euros has been approved for this project for the years 2019 to 2022.
The second funded project is the construction of three new replacements on Industriestraße Mitte. This road forms the supra-regional link between the A 39 and A 395 freeways. The bridges are individual structures over railway tracks. They are subject to heavy traffic and need to be replaced due to their inadequate load-bearing capacity. The total costs amount to just under 4.2 million euros, of which around 1.8 million euros will be taken over as state funding in the years 2019 to 2023.
