As there was one accident there in 2017 and one in 2018 due to the traffic sign, the city of Salzgitter and the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel police department decided to remove the sign as part of the joint inspection of the traffic lights in the city area.

The accidents had occurred because the drivers concerned had overlooked a pedestrian or cyclist crossing the road despite the red light.

The city of Salzgitter and the police department ask road users to pay particular attention to the new rules when turning at the traffic lights into Joachim-Campe-Straße and to stop when the light is red.
