Salzgitter

New construction of a central depot

Important infrastructure project is being implemented: The refurbishment and expansion of the central building and depot on Korbmacher Weg for the municipal public works department (SRB) is being carried out in two construction phases.

An SRB vehicle is parked at the depot on Korbmacherweg.

Construction phase 1: New social building
Construction phase 2: Conversion of former social rooms into office space

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel comments: "Despite the tight budget situation, the urgently needed renovation and expansion of the central building and depot on Korbmacher Weg is being planned and implemented in two construction phases. This is necessary so that the municipal management company can continue to perform its many tasks to its usual high standard. As Lord Mayor, I have worked with the council and administration to ensure that the necessary financial resources are made available."

Klingebiel continues: "I would particularly like to thank the employees of the SRB for living with the situation for so long and doing a very good job under these difficult conditions. I would also like to thank the management and the responsible technical department head. I am pleased and happy that we will soon be providing our employees with modern sanitary facilities and workplaces."

SRB employees are currently housed at the North and South depots, at the Bockmühlenhof depot and at four decentralized bases in Gebhardshagen, at Salzgittersee, in Stadtpark Lebenstedt and in Salzgitter-Thiede at the indoor swimming pool. The accommodation is in need of renovation and is in a poor technical condition.

Frank Klingebiel: "It is necessary to abandon the outdated decentralized locations and implement the concept of a central building depot on Korbmacherweg. Among other things, better and optimized utilization of the existing vehicle and equipment pool, more targeted control of processes and improved communication can be achieved."

The current forecast total costs for construction phases 1 and 2 are currently €6,213,548.

Following the decision in principle to carry out the construction and refurbishment projects outlined in this presentation, actual implementation is set to begin this year. Completion is planned for the 4th quarter of 2019.

Due to the amount of the estimated ancillary construction costs, a Europe-wide invitation to tender for the award of the architectural and engineering services is required.
