All of the Salzgitter retirement and nursing homes involved were able to achieve the quality requirements for obtaining the 2nd seal level of the Lower Saxony hygiene seal.
Retirement and nursing homes are home to many people. If chronic illnesses are present or the immune system is weakened, infections can occur more easily. The health department joined the project in order to introduce uniform hygiene standards in retirement and nursing homes.
It is a project to sustainably improve the quality of hygiene in the facilities, with the local health authorities providing support and the NLGA providing advice and assistance.
However, the facilities first had to achieve the first level of the seal. In 2016, the annual monitoring (inspection) carried out by the public health department verified the performance achieved and all participating retirement and care homes achieved the quality targets of the first seal level. First City Councillor Christa Frenzel presented the participants with the "Lower Saxony Seal of Hygiene" at that time.
In order to achieve level two, the award-winning retirement and nursing homes had to work over the following two years to consolidate the first level and strive for the second level. To achieve this, a further eight quality objectives had to be implemented. Here too, the quality objectives were reviewed as part of the annual monitoring by the health authority.
The ceremonial handover of the 2nd seal level to all participating retirement and nursing homes will take place today (Thursday, March 8) at the SOS Mothers' Center in Salzgitter-Bad by First City Councillor Christa Frenzel, Peter Bergen from the Lower Saxony State Health Office and representatives of the municipal health department.
