Salzgitter

Start of the third youth parliament

As the voice and driving force for children and young people in Salzgitter, as the outgoing speaker, Paula Fiedler, called it, 13 young people took up their work as members of the Salzgitter Youth Parliament at the constituent meeting.

This marks the start of the third term of office for this body.

The 18-year-old Samir Andru König was elected as the new first spokesperson from five candidates in a secret ballot. Lukas Solf is the second spokesperson.

"You can change the city with your work. Tell the politicians in the city council how things can be done differently. Be uncomfortable, ask questions," third mayor Marcel Bürger encouraged the young people. "This voluntary work takes a lot of time, but it's not wasted time," he continued in his welcoming speech.

This was confirmed in her review of the work carried out by the speaker of the 2nd electoral term, Paula Fiedler, who has been actively involved since the beginning of the first meeting. She cited the canteen survey, the schools-out party, involvement in World Play Day, participation in a vacation start-up campaign, the design of her own flyer, the publication of a JuPsz pocket calendar, participation campaigns for the lakeside promenade and the football pitch in Thiede, the production of the ideas boxes, involvement in the Kulturentwicklungsplan and the statement on the indoor swimming pool as examples of the Youth Parliament's successful work to date. She expressed her thanks for the dedicated support given to the young people by the staff in the Children, Youth and Family Department, the Children and Family Officer of the City of Salzgitter and Petra Siems, who, as an advisory guest for the Prevention Council and the District Sports Association, "often put the young people on the right track with her advice and suggestions".

In her passionate speech, Paula Fiedler gave the new youth parliament the following advice: "I wish the new youth parliament always sparkling ideas, the strength and courage to think outside the box, the drive to act and people who are happy to help you with your work."

After the outgoing members of the Youth Parliament were given a certificate of appreciation, the Head of Children, Youth and Family Services, Dr. Roswitha Krum, and the Managing Director of the Youth Parliament, Deborah Gollbach, appointed the 13 new members. They presented the certificates together with Third Mayor Marcel Bürger. As an "ally in the cause and representative for the interests of children and young people", the City of Salzgitter's Children and Families Commissioner presented USB sticks and power banks as work tools and an incentive for their willingness to actively promote the interests of children and young people in Salzgitter.

The new members of the youth parliament did just that by passing their first unanimous resolution on the draft resolution to redesign the playground on Danziger Straße in Thiede. Michael Schunke from the Department for Urban Redevelopment and Socially Integrative City explained the plans to date and the extent to which children from Thiede had been directly involved in the future design of the playground.

The youth parliament receives suggestions, questions and requests from children and young people in Salzgitter. It involves children and young people in planning and decision-making processes, provides information on issues affecting the younger generation in the city and works to create good living, playing, learning and housing conditions for young people. The meetings of the Youth Parliament are open to the public.
