Due to the work, a full closure of the bridge, which was built in 1972, is unavoidable from the fall.
It is planned to divert heavy goods vehicles and all other drivers wishing to reach Salzgitter AG or the Volkswagen plant via the Salzgitter-Thiede and Salzgitter-Watenstedt highway exits.
Vehicles coming from the north will then be directed via the Thiede exit onto Eisenhüttenstraße (L 618) to Industriestraße Nord. Vehicles coming from the south can reach the two industrial companies from the Watenstedt exit via Industriestraße Mitte and Eisenhüttenstraße.
In order to maintain the limited usability of the bridge, the permitted speed was limited to 70 km/h and the distance between trucks to 100 meters and a ban on overtaking trucks was imposed last year as immediate measures.
Shortly before the closure, the city of Salzgitter will once again provide up-to-date information and detour recommendations via the press, on its website and on its Facebook page.
