Since the Second Act Amending the Weapons Act came into force, weapons and ammunition that were in unauthorized possession on July 6, 2017 can be handed in to the competent weapons authority or a police station without penalty. Bullets that are now prohibited under No. 1.5.4 of Annex 2 to the Weapons Act can also be handed in.
The amnesty regulation also covers the carrying of illegally possessed weapons and ammunition directly to the competent authority or police station. The aim of the amnesty is to reduce the number of illegal weapons in circulation.
The weapons and ammunition can be handed in free of charge for destruction at the weapons authority of the city of Salzgitter after prior registration.
