Salzgitter

Demolition is the starting signal

On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, the last long-unused building on the grounds of St. Elisabeth Hospital in Salzgitter-Bad had to make way.

Just over six months ago, in June 2018, St. Elisabeth Hospital received the funding decision from the state of Lower Saxony for a new replacement building. It has recently become clear that something decisive is happening at this location.

The construction site has been cleared and the long-awaited and hard-won new hospital building project in the south of the city is entering the decisive phase.

Operations in the "old" hospital will continue until completion.

Site clearance

"A good day for Salzgitter! A moving day for me, the management and employees of St. Elisabeth Hospital and the population in the south of our home town," says Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, summing up today's go-ahead for the new hospital building.

For over 13 years, I have been fighting with the members of the state parliament and the council for state funding in the double-digit millions. "Together with the new hospital operator Vinzens-Verbund Hildesheim, we have managed to convince the hospital planning committee of the state of Lower Saxony of the need for a second hospital in Salzgitter. I am so proud that we have revived a project that was already declared dead. And rightly so," explains Klingebiel. And he adds: "This new building will not only further improve healthcare in Salzgitter and the region, but will also make a lasting contribution to strengthening and making the town center of Salzgitter-Bad more attractive."
