"Salzgitter from above" on YouTube: Salzgittersee
The second of the three planned online surveys on the further development of Salzgittersee took place from March 25 to April 14, 2019. These are part of an extensive participation process.
A total of 1,593 people took part in the survey. Around 80 percent of respondents stated Salzgitter as their place of residence. This shows the great interest of citizens in the participation process for the development of Salzgittersee. The lively participation of young people is also a positive aspect. Over a third of the participants were under 30 years of age.
Below are some of the results of the survey:
- The following suggestions regarding Salzgittersee were rated as particularly important by respondents: providing litter garbage cans (50 percent agreement), modernizing paths, lighting parking spaces and paths, installing benches and improving the quality of the beach (over 35 percent agreement in each case).
- The division of the lake into five themed areas (sand & sun, city & river, play & sport, water & wind and the island park) was generally well received. Around two thirds of respondents are also open to the topic of city and river, although around 30 percent of participants would like to see a concept to better assess the idea of a stronger connection between Lebenstedt and the lake through a new mixed-use district. This idea was rejected in principle by just under 35 percent of respondents.
- The following suggestions and ideas relating to sand and sun met with particularly high approval in the survey: a beach bar on Salzgittersee (626 approvals) and the installation of an ice cream van in summer (485 approvals). There was also broad support (more than 300 approvals) for the ideas of installing a wooden walkway with a slide and diving platform, expanding the catering facilities and installing gymnastics equipment.
- In the City & River topic area, it was also clear that the participants would like to see an expansion of the gastronomic offerings, especially near the pirate playground (427 votes in favor). It was also rated as particularly important that the Forellenhof be retained and expanded with new offerings (634 votes in favor), that the biotope in the south-eastern bank area be preserved (601 votes in favor) and that rest areas be established (391 votes in favor).
- The modernization of sports facilities met with broad approval in the area of sports and fun. There was particularly high approval for the following ideas: Addition to the skating facility (431 approvals), installation of new gymnastics equipment (309 approvals) and the installation of a biological station (445 approvals).
- In the Water & Wind topic area, the following ideas in particular received high approval ratings: a DLRG station on the western shore and thus another guarded bathing beach (367 approvals), the addition of trees in Reppner's Bay (620 approvals), additional barbecue areas (592 approvals), a beach bar (496 approvals) and the preservation and enlargement of a reed belt (548 approvals).
- When it came to the island park, there was particularly strong support for the planting of rare tree species (404 votes in favor), the creation of flower islands (526 votes in favor), the use of the island for events (484 votes in favor) and the design of quiet areas (348 votes in favor).
The survey clearly showed the very different requirements for the use of Salzgittersee.
The next public participation event is the second workshop on Monday, June 3, 2019, starting at 6 pm. There, interested citizens can discuss the results so far and ideas for the further development of Salzgittersee. Ms. Preuß (contact below) will accept registrations.
