Salzgitter

Brother Dege in the Kniki

On Friday, November 8, 8 p.m., Brother Dege will perform as part of the "Blues in the Church" series at Kniestedter Kirche in Salzgitter-Bad.

For those who like it pure, original and innovative, the singer and songwriter from Louisiana is just the man for the job.

As a descendant of Native American, Irish and American ancestors, he is a scion of the Mississippi Delta. It was there that he was infected by the swamp fever of the Delta Blues in his youth. He picked up the most characteristic instrument in this region - the dobro - and has breathed new life into this steel guitar with fresh ideas. In addition to the traditional riffs, he makes excursions into rockabilly and psychedelic spheres.

Dege's idiosyncratic and sometimes freaky style is his new definition of the twelve bars and is "Delta Blues for the 21st Century". It is certainly harder and louder than its traditional forebears, but it is not so hard that the band could be categorized as heavy metal. His band "The Brotherhood of Blues" features another Dobro virtuoso, Tom Portman. Kent Beatty on bass and Greg Travasos on drums.

For a long time, Brother Dege was one of the best-kept secrets of the southern states - until Hollywood came calling! Cult director Quentin Tarantino used the song "Too old to die young" to accompany a key scene in the blockbuster "Django unchained". Since then, Dege has taken his "Delta Blues for the 21st century" on a journey around the world and his videos have been clicked on more than a million times on YouTube.
