The winner is the person who convinces the expert jury the most in one of the five categories or receives the most votes in the online voting for the audience award. The nominees were put forward by 210 organizers of awards for civic engagement.
As was the case last year, there are a particularly large number of nominees in the areas of social issues, education and integration. Children and young people are the most important target group for civic engagement, accounting for 69.2 percent of nominations (multiple nominations possible).
At the beginning of September, a high-caliber jury of experts will now decide on the winners in the five categories "Creating opportunities", "Preserving life", "Connecting generations", "Overcoming borders" and "Strengthening democracy", each worth 5,000 euros. All other nominees have the chance to win 10,000 euros in prize money in the Audience Award.
Online voting for the Audience Award will take place from September 12 to October 24, 2019. The winners of all six prizes will be announced at a festive awards ceremony on December 5 in Berlin.
