Salzgitter

Municipal museum honored as a place of learning

The Salder Castle Municipal Museum in the town of Salzgitter has been recognized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture as an "extracurricular place of learning" in the "Geopark Harz.Braunschweiger Land.Ostfalen".

In February 2019, the museum applied with its Eiszeitgarten and learning workshop together with the Geopark information center "Findlingsgarten und Erlebnissteinbrüche" near Königslutter am Elm and the "Staatliches Naturhistorisches Museum Braunschweig" with the geopoint "Jurameer Schandelah".

Before being awarded the title of "Extracurricular Learning Site" in the Geopark in accordance with the ESD concept (Education for Sustainable Development), Salder Castle's educational concept was first examined by Dr. Renate Sievers-Altermann from the state education authority. In August 2019, the collective application was then approved by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs in Hanover.

The certificate was awarded at the Geopark Info Center in Königslutter by Minister of Education Grant Hendrik Tonne. Jan Erik Bohling, Head of Cultural Affairs, accepted the certificate, plaque and plaque on behalf of the town of Salzgitter.

Museum educator Christine Kellner-Depner presented the museum's educational work and selected projects to those present.

According to Kellner-Depner, museum education at the castle aims to present and illustrate not only cultural and historical contexts but also artistic, technical and scientific knowledge. For school classes of all grades, the staff have been providing an extensive range of activities from various subject areas for years.

The museum has always seen itself as a place of learning, so she is all the more pleased that it is now officially a place of learning.
