From June, a new building with 18 senior-friendly apartments will be built on the Jost property at the junction of Helenenstraße and Hedwigstraße. Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel commented: "For me, it is particularly important to send a positive signal for the development of the Westsiedlung. The planned new building on the Jost site is a result of the close cooperation and social commitment of the city and the municipal Wohnbau Salzgitter GmbH." Wohnbau Salzgitter GmbH ultimately won the auction for the hotel, restaurant and discotheque Jost. "I'm glad that Wohnbau joined in the bidding," emphasized Rolf Stratmann.

"The new building will have three storeys and will be based on the architectural design of the surrounding area after consultation with the heritage conservation authorities," explained Managing Director Jens Bischoff. Managing Director Christian Heinrich added: "The construction costs for the new building are around 3 million euros."

The senior apartments being built there will be barrier-free, and two of them will even be wheelchair-accessible. All apartments will have a spacious open-plan cooking, dining and living area, a barrier-free bathroom with a walk-in shower, a separate bedroom and a separate storage room in the basement. The apartments are between 50 and 62 square meters in size.
