Salzgitter

Lively exchange on Salzgittersee

On Monday, June 3, 2019, the second workshop on the further development of Salzgittersee took place in the Kulturscheune. The participants discussed the results of the previous surveys and events in working groups.

The workshop in the Kulturscheune was part of a broad-based participation process aimed at making proposals to the Salzgittersee City Council for the future development of Salzgittersee. Based on this, a target and structural concept is to be drawn up, which will form the basis for concrete measures. The workshop was preceded by two online surveys, a walk around the lake and an initial workshop in March. The results of these participations led to the following key topics that needed to be clarified in the workshop:

  • How can the offer for young people be specifically expanded?
  • further details on the proposal for events on the island
  • Further details and discussion on the topic of "more barbecue areas by the lake"
  • Discussion on the topic of "mixed urban quarter in the southern area of the lake"

A lively discussion developed immediately after the welcoming address by city planning officer Michael Tacke, Prof. Walter Ackers from Ackers Partner Städtebau and project manager Christian Plumeyer. The main topic was "City and River" and the closely associated theme of the mixed urban quarter.

The 32 workshop participants then worked in four working groups to develop their proposals on three issues. They dealt with good examples of lakes close to the city in other cities, the vision for Salzgittersee in 2030 and content that should be addressed as part of a concept for the construction of a mixed urban quarter. The background to the last question was that around 30 percent of participants in the last online survey pointed out that they lacked a concept for this urban quarter in order to assess the question accurately.
