Wishing tree campaign for Salzgitter children

In 2019, the employees at the Avacon sites in Salzgitter continued the tradition of making others happy at Christmas.

As part of the so-called "Wish Tree Campaign", they sponsored Christmas presents for around 60 children from the playgroups of the "Kita-Einstieg" project of the city of Salzgitter.

Each child was allowed to write down a wish for a Christmas present worth up to 20 euros. These wish lists were hung up on Christmas trees at the Avacon locations in Salzgitter. Any interested employee of the energy service provider was able to take over the fulfillment of a wish, get the present and hand it in at a collection point in the company.

In addition to the children, their parents and some Avacon employees, including the Managing Director of Avacon Netz GmbH, Rainer Schmittdiel, Dr. Dirk Härdrich, Head of the Social Affairs Department of the City of Salzgitter, and Dr. Roswitha Krum, Head of the Children, Youth and Family Department, were also present at the gift presentation.

Daycare entry" project

"A big thank you to the Avacon employees for their social commitment," said Dr. Härdrich. There are ten playgroups throughout the city, which were created as part of the federal "Kita-Einstieg" program, reported the head of social affairs. Children aged two to six are looked after there and prepared for attending a kindergarten. They often come from refugee families or from families who find themselves in a special life situation.

The program takes place three days a week for three hours each. As part of the project, the children in the playgroups get an idea of what it is like to go to a childcare facility every day. They learn a lot of new things there that they might not experience in the family circle and can make friends there. The parents learn how their little ones are looked after in the facilities, that the care can be a relief for everyday family life, that they can give their children to the playgroups or kindergartens with a clear conscience, as they are well looked after and supported there.
