Fitness park in Salzgitter-Bad

Exercise in the fresh air not only puts you in a good mood but also strengthens your physical fitness and immune system.

The motto "Salzgitter on the move - join in!" is the concept for the planned intergenerational fitness park in the open air at the Thermalsolbad: a good way for young and old to improve their well-being and recharge their batteries.

100,000 euros are needed to purchase nine stations with high-quality equipment for varied training for beginners and advanced users. The initiators have already raised more than 70,000 euros. Further supporters are being sought.

The idea started with a weekend trip by Edda Alex from Salzgitter. On a walk with friends in Oldenburg, she discovered a public fitness facility and was thrilled. That must be possible here in Salzgitter too, thought the physiotherapist and wrote to the city. Mayor Frank Klingebiel, who is himself very involved in sport and is now the patron of the project, liked the idea.

A publicly accessible fitness park reaches all citizens and offers the opportunity for health-promoting leisure activities in the community. People can use this offer free of charge to actively do something for their own health. The planned location on the green area behind the parking lot at the Thermalsolbad near the Kneipp treading pool is already established as a starting and finishing point for clubs, walkers, running and walking groups. It is a good meeting point for sports enthusiasts or anyone who wants to become one. Catering and sanitary facilities are in the immediate vicinity.

Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH helped develop the concept in collaboration with Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH.

The concept also impressed the jury of the Salzgitter Schloss-Salder Lions Club, which clearly judged the project to be worthy of support as part of its 20th anniversary competition and provided 20,000 euros in start-up capital.

Nine pieces of equipment were selected for the course. Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH, which will later also take over the operation of the facility, is still looking for silver partners who would like to place their logo on the boards with exercise descriptions to finance the individual stations. Bronze partners will be given a place on the partner board. The city provides the green space through its public works department. Donors are also still being sought for the ground work to prepare the surface.
