Salzgitter

Renewal of the outdoor pool

As part of the federal program "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture", which was launched for the first time in 2018, the city of Salzgitter applied for four funding measures based on the council resolution of 19.12.2018:

  1. Major refurbishment of the stadium at Salzgittersee
  2. Major refurbishment of the Amselstieg sports hall
  3. Refurbishment of the Thermalsolbad
  4. Construction of the outdoor pool at Stadtbad Lebenstedt

The measures should be implemented subject to actual funding from the federal government in the amount of 90 percent. in the amount of 90 percent.

The fact that the federal government decided not to fund any of the measures applied for in 2018 was met with fierce criticism in Salzgitter from Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and all council parties, particularly in view of the multiple problems in Salzgitter. Mayor Klingebiel did not turn his heart into a murder pit in a letter to the responsible federal granting authority and also contacted the members of the Bundestag responsible for Salzgitter. He found a strong supporter in MP Victor Perli (Die Linke).

Klingebiel: "Victor Perli and I were aware that we would not have been able to reverse this negative decision on the 2018 federal funding program even with a lawsuit and instead fought behind the scenes for Salzgitter to be included in the federal funding program that was also updated in 2019. With success!"

The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag decided yesterday that the city of Salzgitter will receive federal funding of €1,913,372 to renovate the year-round pool in the Stadtbad in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.

"This positive decision was only possible because Vitor Perli and I found strong supporters for Salzgitter in Eckhardt Rehberg and André Berghegger, CDU members of parliament and members of the budget committee of the German Bundestag. We were able to make Salzgitter's multiple problems clear across party lines," said Klingebiel.

"Unfortunately, due to the limited federal funding available in 2019, only one funding application from the city of Salzgitter could be considered, and only the one with the lowest funding amount," adds Klingebiel. This explains why the federal government will only approve the application for funding, which was ranked fourth in priority by Salzgitter City Council.

Klingebiel explains: "The federal state of Lower Saxony will receive a total of €9.4 million in federal funds from the 2019 funding pot to promote infrastructure in the areas of sport, youth and culture in the municipalities. I would like to thank the members of the Bundestag Victor Perli, Eckhardt Rehberg and André Berghegger for their support. Although I would have preferred a different prioritization by the federal government, I am glad that Salzgitter is now being considered at all. Now we have to clarify locally when and how we can manage the other three very important projects on our own."
