The construction delays in Danziger Straße are due on the one hand to unplanned renewal work on a high-pressure natural gas pipeline belonging to Avacon. The pipeline has to be repaired or replaced along almost its entire length. It has become apparent that the outer shell of the pipeline is severely damaged.
On the other hand, it has been decided together with Abwasserentsorgung Salzgitter GmbH (ASG) to renew several sections of the existing rainwater sewer. This involves a total of around 180 meters of sewer renewal. The reason for the renewal is the existing position and installation depth of the old sewer in the sidewalk. The new sewers will be laid at a greater depth in the roadway. Furthermore, new connections to the rainwater sewer will require a larger diameter in future.
This means that the road construction cannot be carried out as planned. Construction is scheduled to end around the end of July 2020.
"Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße, second construction phase" measure postponed to 2021
Due to the significant delay in the construction of "Danziger Straße" until mid-2020, it is necessary to postpone the construction of the second construction section of "Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße" until 2021.
The new sewer construction in the second construction phase will take place at a laying depth of four to five meters and will require a construction period of around 4.5 months, including the installation of all new house connections. Construction could start in August 2020 at the earliest. This means that the sewer construction would not be completed until the end of 2020. A temporary surface closure would have to be created for the winter period, which would then be removed again after the winter break due to road construction. This would lead to significant additional financial costs and additional inconvenience for residents as a result of the extended construction period. This should be avoided.
The "Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße, second construction phase" project will therefore be carried out as a joint project by ASG and the administration (sewer construction and road construction) from April 2021.
