The revision of the decision made in March 2019 became necessary because the construction costs had to be adjusted to new circumstances, technical requirements and operational necessities compared to the cost estimate from January 2019. Despite exploiting all potential savings and optimization efforts, the construction costs have risen by around 19% compared to the cost estimate at the time. The extension project that has now been approved includes the installation of an elevator to ensure barrier-free access to the upper floor. The heating concept provides for regenerative heat generation using a geothermal heat pump. In addition, a photovoltaic system and a solar thermal system will be installed to heat domestic hot water. With this sustainable and climate-friendly energy concept, the SRB is ready for the future.
Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasizes: "The readjustment was necessary, but now it is high time for the go-ahead to be given. This is an important signal for the SRB employees, who have been waiting a long time for modern recreation, office and sanitary facilities, but also for the SRB as a modern waste management company."
The new building will create a total of 63 office workstations, divided into 39 single offices, four double offices, one four-person office and 12 flexible workstations (in one room). The new sanitary facilities and recreation rooms are designed for around 250 employees. The decentralized bases will be abandoned in favour of a central construction and operations depot. The future use of the central vehicle and equipment pool promises synergy effects. The currently calculated costs are around 8.181 million euros. The planning office will submit the building application in the next few months, tenders for the construction work will be invited in the second half of 2020 and construction will begin in 2021.
