After 2014, 2016 and 2018, the fourth youth parliament in Salzgitter has now started work. It consists of 21 Salzgitter residents between the ages of 13 and 20. This includes young people who were already represented in the youth parliament during the 2nd and 3rd electoral periods.
In his welcoming address, First Mayor Stefan Klein emphasized: "You are important and we need you when it comes to the interests of young people in Salzgitter." City Councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich added in his welcoming address: "The participation of children and young people - in other words you - is indispensable, firstly because it is about your future, because we as the administration and local politicians find your opinions important and because we need you - the active young people - who are committed to the community.
Lukas Solf, the spokesperson for the "old" youth parliament, told the new parliamentarians that they should assert themselves and carry the momentum of their predecessors into their work. Samir Andru König, who was elected as spokesperson for the new Youth Parliament, said in his inaugural statement: "Each and every one of you has a goal, why you are here. Thank you for taking part and here's to the next two years."
Two other positions were also elected: Victoria Minch was elected as deputy spokesperson and Anna Hopp is the new secretary.
The youth parliament is involved in measures taken by the administration and the council that concern the interests of children and young people. It can set up its own topic-related working groups. The 4th electoral term of the Youth Parliament runs until 2022.
