A residential courtyard with 31 rental units, each between 65 and 125 square meters in size, is being built here. Move-in is planned for mid-2022. The five townhouse apartments and the remaining 26 residential units, some in maisonette style, are largely barrier-free, five of which are wheelchair-accessible. The Wohnbau city office will move into one of the two commercial units on the first floor. The first tenant is currently being sought for the second unit with around 150 m² of commercial space.
The outdoor areas are characterized by open spaces and quiet zones. The height of the residential courtyard varies from two to four storeys and adapts to the neighboring buildings.
During the demolition work on the existing buildings, a surprising discovery was made. A historic well from the 19th century was uncovered. The original design was then changed and the fountain was integrated into the design of the outdoor facilities. A planned building section with two residential units was omitted.
Lord Mayor and Supervisory Board member Frank Klingebiel emphasizes the high appeal of this residential construction project: "With this further new construction project, our municipal housing association Salzgitter mbH is fulfilling our municipal policy objective of creating new contemporary, attractive, high-quality and sustainable living spaces for the people of our city of Salzgitter very well."
He continued: "This project is part of the strategic "new construction offensive with a sense of proportion" of the city of Salzgitter and Salzgitter AG as the owner of Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Salzgitter mbH. It is a clear commitment to securing the future of the city and will contribute to the revitalization of the city center of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt."
