The current episode 3 "Zaunpfahl" is about the few traces of the E/F/G camp complex between Salzgitter-Heerte and -Barum. They were probably forgotten when the last remains of the camp were finally demolished.
Maike Weth, director of the Drütte Concentration Camp Memorial, is an expert on the camp complex: "Where there is now farmland and a wooded area, more than 2,000 people lived in barracks at times - including forced laborers and prisoners of war."
At the beginning of the 1960s, Musekamp - as it was called after the war - was completely demolished. One of the last contemporary witnesses is the aforementioned fence post.
"There are a total of 50 Salzgitter secrets to discover, one episode every month," points out Jeannette Rische from the Medienzentrum. The premiere is always on the City of Salzgitter's YouTube channel (opens in a new tab), and afterwards the contributions can also be seen on the city's other channels, such as Facebook.
The first episode of Salzgitter Secrets is about the pigeon tower, the second about a rushing manhole cover. Further contributions will follow in the coming months. A wide variety of stories from the Salzgitter region will be presented on film.
The whole thing is also available in book form from Salzgitter bookshops and mail order companies.
