Salzgitter without domestic violence - locally viral

Women, but also men, often look for help and support against domestic violence in the wrong place. Over the next few weeks, the Round Table against Domestic Violence will be providing information on social media and with a poster campaign about offers of help.

"Domestic violence is a wildfire that still affects one in four women in Germany. Putting a stop to this has been binding law in Germany for two years now. We are legally obliged to protect women from violence, as the Federal Republic of Germany joined the Council of Europe's Istanbul Convention two years ago," says Simone Semmler, the city's Equal Opportunities Officer and member of the Round Table against Domestic Violence.

For this reason, the round table against domestic violence has been looking for ways to inform those affected about the right contact options.

A Facebook campaign has been launched for this purpose. Over the next 12 weeks, two posts a week will be published with important information from the support facilities on the topic of "Salzgitter without domestic violence". The aim of the network is for those affected to get to know the local help contacts under the hashtag #SZgewaltfrei. "We hope that many people, including those not affected, will share the "Salzgitter without domestic violence" campaign in their own timelines and Facebook groups so that #SZgewaltfrei goes viral locally and as many people as possible receive the information," says Friederike Schröder from BiSS Beratung.

The round table against domestic violence has also launched a Salzgitter-wide poster campaign that provides information about the nationwide helpline.

This helpline is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and is staffed by specialists who can provide advice in 17 languages. The advisors can be reached on 08000 116 016.

"What makes Salzgitter special is that everyone pulls together in crisis situations and quickly develops solutions," emphasizes Andrea Meyer, head of the Salzgitter Women's Shelter and member of the Round Table against Domestic Violence.

Institutions that want to get involved can find free materials at www.hilfetelefon.de that can be displayed, for example. Simone Semmler will answer any further questions about the activities of the Round Table against Domestic Violence by e-mail to gleichstellungstadt.salzgitterde
