Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel: "The fundamental renovation of the auditorium of the Gymnasium am Fredenberg is finally getting underway. The demolition work inside the building began on March 1. I am delighted that this go-ahead for the refurbishment of the Fredenberg auditorium also brings the refurbishment of the auditorium in Salzgitter-Bad, which was already planned for 2024 in the financial planning for the 2021/2022 double budget, noticeably closer. At my suggestion and in line with the fundamental political agreements on these two major projects, the Council also put down reliable markers for the assembly hall in Salzgitter-Bad with its budget resolution on January 20. This is not only good for the people in the south of our city, but also an enrichment for all Salzgitter residents."
The auditorium of the Gymnasium am Fredenberg is to undergo a complete refurbishment at a total cost of around 6.035 million euros, whereby the basic character of the building is to be retained. The building is to be almost completely gutted and will enable barrier-free use in the future.
The main keywords here are energy-efficient refurbishment, improved fire protection and accessibility.
The outer shell of the building, i.e. the façade, the roof, the glass façade in the entrance area and the windows, will be renovated to improve energy efficiency. The newly planned, all-round façade will consist of a metal substructure covered with a fabric. The entrance area will be redesigned and given an extension to accommodate an expansion of the foyer with a catering area, a new main entrance and an expansion of the toilet facilities. This will allow the foyer to be used flexibly.
In order to optimize the building for a wide range of events, a new delivery area will also be built at the rear of the building, an inclusive elevator system will be installed and the ventilation and stage technology will be renewed. All publicly accessible areas (foyer, hall, sanitary facilities for visitors) will be barrier-free. The entire seating will also be replaced and adapted.
Regarding the planned renovation of the auditorium at Salzgitter-Bad Grammar School, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel added: "The complete renovation of the auditorium at Salzgitter-Bad Grammar School will be carried out between 2024 and 2027. The investment funds for the start of this important measure have already been budgeted in the financial plan, starting in 2024. Total costs of 7.3 million euros are planned.
Implementing both major projects at the same time would have exceeded both our human and financial resources, but the Council and I remain firmly committed to the goal of having a modernized and renovated auditorium in both Fredenberg and Salzgitter-Bad by 2027."
