Disc golf tournament at Salzgittersee enters its 11th round

For the eleventh time, a nationwide disc golf tournament will be held on Saturday, October 9, and Sunday, October 10, on the island in Salzgittersee as part of a tour of Germany.

In cooperation with the Wolfenbüttel disc golf club Tee-Timers, Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH (BSF) is offering a challenging and attractive course.

"Apart from a few minor changes, it's basically the same attractive course as the 2020 German Championships, which we were able to win for Salzgitter last year," says Wolfgang Philippsen, Head of Division at BSF, who is looking forward to the upcoming event. The 18 baskets form challenging targets across the entire island area. The respective courses have a length of 68 to 230 meters. The entire course will be prepared by the municipal maintenance company (SRB).

The format is new this year. "We have increased the number of starting places to 108, so for the first time we are not playing two rounds on Saturday, but just one and the second as the final round on Sunday," explains tournament director Andreas Martin. The maximum of 27 flights with four participants each will start the round in a golf start. "This means that the first group of four starts on the first hole, ten minutes later the second group starts there and then the next group every ten minutes," explains Martin.

Defending champion Kevin Konsorr will not be taking part. This will keep the streak going that no Islander has ever been able to defend his title in Salzgitter. Fabian Kaune from Ilsede, the 2019 German champion, is likely to be the favorite. "He will be joined by Christian Plaue, the 2018 winner, and the newly crowned German champion Antonia Faber in the women's race," says Andreas Martin, giving a small insight into the quality to be expected. From a local perspective, hopes are pinned on Marius Famme and Martin himself.

The circular route around the island can be used by visitors on both days of the event. However, the organizers ask that visitors stay on the circular route to avoid any unpleasant encounters with the discs. Public play on the normal 12-hole course is not possible.

The first throw-off will take place on Saturday at 8:30 am. The final round will also start at 8:30 am on Sunday. The award ceremony is scheduled for 16:00.
