"The car service park on Neißestraße is bursting at the seams, the Salzgitter hydrogen campus is looking for space for an information center - two attractive reuse options that I will propose to the council," says Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel.
The building on Hans-Birnbaum-Straße has housed the vaccination center since the end of 2020, where more than 80,000 vaccine doses were administered directly on site, in the vaccination bus and by mobile teams. Until the end of September, only second vaccinations will be administered at the vaccination center, after which the "institution vaccination center" will come to an end. Corona vaccinations will then be part of standard medical care, which will be flanked by mobile teams from October onwards. "I think the decision to close the vaccination centers is premature. I am pleased that we have succeeded in convincing the state that the mobile teams are not only responsible for third-party vaccinations as originally planned, but can also go wherever they are needed. The results in Salzgitter clearly show that low-threshold access to vaccination is important in order to reach as many people as possible," says Klingebiel.
But what will happen next on Hans-Birnbaum-Straße?
Klingebiel will propose two attractive potential new tenants to the city council on September 29.
Car service park of the city of Salzgitter
The car service park (ASP) is one of the administration's most frequented contact points. The accommodation in the building on Neißestraße is no longer adequate - neither in the offices nor in the waiting and customer areas. "The move will put an end to the cramped conditions in the current ASP building on Neißestraße," says Klingebiel, adding: "This is not only a benefit for my employees, but also more customer-friendly for citizens."
Information center Hydrogen Campus Salzgitter
And with the information center of the hydrogen campus, another tenant is brought into play. In September 2020, the city of Salzgitter, the state of Lower Saxony, the Fraunhofer Institute and the companies Salzgitter AG, MAN Energy Solutions SE, Robert Bosch Elektronik GmbH, Alstom Transport Deutschland GmbH and WEVG Salzgitter GmbH & Co. KG signed the cooperation agreement for the Salzgitter Hydrogen Campus. An association that aims to intensively support and shape the transformation process in the industry.
The first projects are already underway and an important one is now to follow, as the concept behind the term "hydrogen campus" is still quite abstract. This is set to change with the planned information center.
Here, knowledge about hydrogen as an important energy supplier for the economy and transportation will be clearly communicated. The information center will not only offer vocational training and further education, but will also be open to all interested parties.
